If you need to sell your house fast, you can consider using this simple feng shui formula. Before using this formula, realistically you must first ensure your house is selling at fair market price. Because this feng shui formula is supplementary than a profiteering tactic.

Some do’s and don’ts about horse figurine

2. Do get an “active-looking” galloping horse figurine that you like.
3. If anyone of your family members is born in the year of rat, best to use other formulas like annual flying star “6” or qi men dun jia 驿马. It is also best to avoid if your bazi Day master “root” is rat 子.
4. You should postpone your selling decision if your spouse is pregnant. 
5. The horse  facing the direction of your main door or window not towards the inside of your house.

2025 Year of Wood Snake feng shui predictions: Find out how to improve your home feng shui and personal luck. Surely not about lucky colours to wear in 2025 (my clients asked me). If you are a professional or in business, one can’t be seen wearing colours other than black, navy and grey.

It is imperative to choose an auspicious date and time 吉日 良辰 to move into your new home. The traditional method is to follow the Chinese almanac (黄历) dates that are compatible with occupants’ bazi and Home Destiny.

It is listed as 入伙 for brand new house and resale 移徙. Other formulas to choose an auspicious date if you are not in a hurry are 七政四余 太阳到山到向 三元紫白 奇门遁甲 六壬 三元  太乙神数 etc

No such thing as ghost month cannot shift house

It is appalling to avoid certain beliefts such as Qingming Festival (清明), lunar 7th month (ghost month) or Friday the 13th cannot shift house etc etc. Look at it this way, every month there are auspicious and unfavourable dates based on bazi calculations. An auspicious date and time maybe good for Mr. Lee but not Mr. Tan

For example using just one of the many formulas 太阳到山法.

During August month i.e. Lunar 7th month so call ghost month 农历七月 for a Home Destiny that sits South 丙山 facing 壬向 North is very lucky 吉利 to move house because 太阳 立秋 (usually 07-09 Aug) 到山 dispel substantial negative energies 能化解 很多灾煞.

Chinese Custom House moving ritual

The procedure below is a common Chinese “tradition or custom” on what to do, on the day of move in. You can choose to follow all or part of. 

1st, family member must stay overnight for the first time. It does not matter if some of your family members are overseas or schooling and can’t make it for the day & time.

2nd, the significance to use an  “auspicious starting date & time” is “symbolic” to good fortune 好意头, 兆头, 彩头.

In the past, fire crackers and charcoal stove were used to commemorate the shift in day. Here is the simplified version to give you peace of mind.

*Please note that all the “heavy lifting” such as bed, furniture, refrigerator, sofa set, TV console can be install or transported prior to shift in.

For those who wanted install “安床 new bed” (newly wed) you can follow the delivery timing prior to shifting in but place the bed slanted in the master room. Then on the given date and time by your feng shui master place it properly against the wall.

*For those with religion, you can set up the altar stand (but not lighted up) cover your deity with a red cloth prior to day of move in. On the auspicious shift in day and time you can unveil and do your religious beliefs such as burning of joss stick, offerings, etc.

Third anytime prior to shift in day, consider sprinkle $168 consisting of $1 coin all over the entire house. The amount is up to you, you can use $1688 if that is not too heavy to carry OR your own perceived lucky number.

Procedures on Shift in day  搬家

1. Wear something new as if it is the 1st lunar day of Chinese New Year.
2. Paste one pair of red 对联 (dui lian) Chinese scrolls on each side of the door. You can remove this after staying in your new house for 7 days. This is believed to ward off evil spirits 僻邪驱鬼.
3. The most senior member of house should lead and enter the house first, this is a form of respect.
4. Family members to carry items symbolic to good fortune when entering new house, examples:

• daddy carry money in a red packet or anything that is symbolic to wealth.
• mummy bring small quantities of 米 油 盐 酱 醋 茶 rice, oil, salt, sauce, vinegar, tea leave omit the  柴 charcoal to signify abundance.
• kids who are schooling can carry 葱蒜 spring onion & garlic or 4 calligraphy brushes.
• singles who wish to get married can carry a red string.

5. After you entered, pick up the 168 pieces of 1 dollar coin (that you sprinkle prior to shift in) put inside a red packet or box and place it under your mattress. This signifies “财源广进” ushering wealth into your house.

6. Activate all electricity, lighting and appliances. It is important to turn on your gas stove 开炉 (kai lu) to boil water and cook a simple meal. You and your family members have to consume the food and water for the 1st time using your new stove.

This must fall within auspicious timing given by your feng shui master. The “boiling of water” is symbolic to “shift in” and cooking a meal technically making it complete. It signifies your home is flourishing 风生水起.

Switching on all home lightings is symbolic to bringing the “charcoal stove” into the house because light is “fire” element.  Chinese Custom believed that “fire” can dispel negative energies.

7. Before shift in day, likely your new bed/mattress would have been delivered to your home already. Leave the mattress in a vertical position (whether length or breadth lean against the floor doesn’t matter). Then on the auspicious day & hour you can put the mattress properly 安床. This is the simplest bed installation method.

*it does not matter if you needed 2-3 hours to finish the “chinese custom” what matters is the starting time on the auspicious date chosen by your feng shui master

Seriously clearing clutter again

The usual feng shui cliché for study area is have lights, unclutter and tidy up. When comes to feng shui tips is always “clearing clutter” omg. If that is the case then you don’t need to engage a feng shui master, employing a helper make more sense.

Then there are those who try to sell you feng shui stuff such as pagoda, brushes or chinese calligraphy.

The chinese term for feng shui study location is call wen chang position 文昌位. Wen Chang is the academic star to accentuate literature dominance, scholarly pursue or intellect or mental agility. It helps concentration and clears the mind.

4 Simple D.I.Y. methods to help your child’s education

Below are 4 simple methods to locate wen chang position in your house. If the space is available you only need to place the study desk and automatically your child’s concentration will improve, no items are necessary. If unfortunately the wen chang sector is missing or in the toilet then one have to improvise using other formulas such as ZiWei DouShu, Qi Men Dun Jia or Xuan Kong Home Destiny feng shui.

Method 1. Eight House and Nine palace 八宅九宫飞泊

Every home has it’s predestined position for learning, in feng shui known as wen chang star location 文昌位. It is based on the sitting position of the house which is also known as House Destiny 宅命.

Sitting position of a house is 180 degree opposite direction to main door facing. Take for example if you main door faces North 10 degree, then your Home Destiny is South 190 degree based on 8 Mansion formula 八宅明镜.

• Sitting North 坎宅 is at Northeast sector 艮卦
• South 离宅  is at South sector
• Sitting position Northeast 艮宅 is at North sector 坎卦
• East sitting position 震宅 is at Northwest sector 乾卦
• Southeast sitting position  巽宅  is in the centre zone 中宮
• Southwest 坤宅 is at West sector 兑卦
• West 兑宅  is at Southwest sector 坤卦
• Northwest house 乾宅  at East sector 震卦

2. Annual flying star “1” or “4” positions

Using Annual flying star principle is one of the easiest and most effective method to activate study. Take this year 2014, annual flying star 4 is in the centre sector and 1 in South-West sector.

If one can position the study table at the sector where annual flying star 1 or 4 lands the “learning” energy is already activated. Nowadays is so convenient one can use the laptop at the annual wen chang sector

The impact of annual flying star is fast and yield positive results for quick fix like critical years PSLE, GCE O Level, GCE A Level. The impact is for one year therefore the influence is rapid. Just a word of caution, it is best for your interest to check your Home destiny feng shui before activating this. 

3. Child day of birth 日主天干

This method uses bazi profiling to locate study area. It is permanent and last forever. You don’t have to place any additional enhancement if you are able to place the study table. However if you wanted to enhance further you can match the 5 element of the sector. Below is the Chinese script to identify the location of feng shui study segment. Feng shui master (FSM) clients should not have problem using this chart because our audit includes bazi bonus.

甲岁亥巳曲与昌，乙逢马鼠焕文章，丙戊申寅庚亥巳，六丁鸡兔贵十分，壬遇虎猴癸兔西，辛宜子下马名扬

It means Day master Jia wood 甲日 person his/her study segment is at 巳 in the south-east sector.

甲日出生的人士，以巳為文昌、
乙日出生的人士，以午為文昌、
丙日出生的人士，以申為文昌、
丁日出生的人士，以酉為文昌、
戊日出生的人士，以申為文昌、
己日出生的人士，以酉為文昌、
庚日出生的人士，以亥為文昌、
辛日出生的人士，以子為文昌、
壬日出生的人士，以寅為文昌、
癸日出生的人士，以卯為文昌。

4. Home destiny flying star method

This method you have to know your Home Destiny Energy Map. Among the 4 methods this is one of the most effective. The following flying star combos that meet this criteria are:

14 or 41 at a particular sector 四一同宫 科发之名 (FSM clients can check their Home Destiny charts)

四属木巽卦 wood，一属水坎卦 water，水能生木，木入坎宫代表凤池身贵，声名显赫。

6 & 1 combo 虛聯奎壁，啟八代之文章 status and reputation 

9 & 4 combo 木见火而生聪明之士 better suited for creativity, arts and humanities

On the other hand these are the sectors that you should avoid using as study because it dulls the mind and make us more retarded.

9 & 2 combo or 9 & 5 combo 生愚钝顽夫 meets getting stupid ，无家室之相依

Parents high expectations resulting in loss of motivation from your child

In Singapore, it is understandable that as parent you will want your child to be the best. It is easy for you as parents to set high standards and demand for an “A” from your child during examinations. However, as parents you must understand the repercussions of setting unrealistic expectations.

Just imagine putting yourself in your child’s shoes. If your boss gives you a target which is impossible to meet. You will most probably lose motivation because no matter how hard you try, you will not be able to satisfy him or her. Similarly, this is how your children might feel.

2024 Wood Dragon Year is a challenging year based on feng shui perspective.

Beginning of Recession 经济衰退 in Year 2024 and more?

Most of the websites you may have visited only use 1 or 2 feng shui models to forecast the forthcoming year. Every year i integrated popular feng shui formulas such as Year Bazi 八字 Natal Chart, Xuan Kong flying star 玄空飞星, Qi Men Dun Jia 奇门遁甲, San He 三合,  “zhen lu ma gui fei diao 太岁飞吊 真禄马贵” etc to give a more holistic picture of 2024  forthcoming events and it is not promising!

Thus top prority for 2024 is to mitigate the negative feng shui sectors. They are West-Misfortune 5, SE-Sickness 2 + 辰太岁, South sector representing Singapore 3 Killings 三煞 巳丙午丁未 and NW 戌岁破. It becomes critical if sectors mentioned is your Main Door, Bedroom or Stove locations.

The  3 positive sectors of my pick are East 1, NorthEast 6 and North 8.

SW (未坤申) sector based on Xuan Kong flying star (玄空飞星) no doubt is the best energy 9 当令旺气 but qi men death door,  天芮星 sickness and 未 三煞 is unsafe to enhance it!

To complicate matters, 2024 is the commencement of a New Era known as the 9th Luck Cycle or Period 9 下元九运 using Xuan Kong calculations.

Qi Men 奇门 六仪 九星 八神 八门 Fu Yin 伏吟 stagnant 

In 2024 the 9 stars, 8 doors, 8 deities, 6 yi are in stagnant position i.e. revert to original natal chart position.  It is a negative sign that nothing is going to change, things are not happening. Not a good indication when there is no progress.

2024 Bad Natal Chart 天克 地冲 accidents – 动荡 turmoil

天上三奇 甲戊庚 Year, Day and Time stem “seem” to exhibit heavenly 3 wonders. It forms productive cycle Jia wood grows Bing Fire, fire grows Wu Earth and earth grows Geng Metal. But a deep dive reveals all in “clashing” positions甲辰vs戊戌  丙寅vs庚申.   No water element in the structure. 

Freak transport accidents 

The entire chart is 四柱纯阳 yang. The roots of the Bazi structure shows underlying conflicts & clashes 寅申丙(巳)驿马 三刑/冲 bus/car/ship/train/air/MRT freak transport accidents.  辰戌冲 earthquarke 庚克甲 丙克庚 are all worrying signs. 2024 七杀格 7 Killings bazi structure（有杀先论杀，无杀方论用）impulsive, reckless, competitiveness, misfortune, accidents and 偏印 unorthodox tactics, self-indulgence.

Day Master 戊戌 is 魁kui 罡gang 日. From 60 甲子 there are 4 such days i.e. 庚戍、庚辰、壬辰、戊戍. Interpret 魁罡 day alone represents aggressiveness, decisiveness, strong armed leadership, intelligence etc

Globally conflicts, fire-related disaster, earthquakes, disharmony, wars, recession, transportation accidents, emotional illnesses are strong possibilities.

2024 outlook is gloomy

Some of these feng shui myths seem to stay on forever since i started doing feng shui more than 20 years ago.

Most of us are well educated with master’s degrees yet appalling feng shui theories sprung up like wild mushrooms.

feng shui myth 1 – mistress @ $39.90

Not sure which imperial feng shui book, this teachings came from. i was make aware from my client that there is this youtube video showing that having more than 1 kitchen-stove-burner  灶 or room-within-a-room  房中房 has the good fortune of attracting mistresses. Can’t imagine the cost to attract a mistress is having an extra stove/burner at $39.90.  

Feng shui principles are formulas and calculations not wild imaginations.

myth 2 omg ceiling fan also in trouble

Heard a lot of clients feedback stating that ceiling fan is bad. First feng shui formulas dated back centuries ago got no ceiling fan. So all this are today’s feng shui sifu wild imaginations.

In a hot humid country like Singapore how is ceiling fan that ventilates the air be bad? This is as good as telling people staying in countries having winter season not to have heaters ?

feng shui myth 3 角煞 perpendicular walls are sha qi

If you look inside your house or look out from your windows you are bound to see objects that are upright at 90 degree. If these are poison arrows you probably have to live on top of mountains. 

Authentic teachings of feng shui focus on Yin Yang, Law of motion, 雌雄交媾, 阴阳相合, 动静, 山水零正原则, 天地人 日课 气质 among others.

feng shui myth 4 – bed in the middle of  nowhere

All those who have engaged me sleeping with their bed in the middle of the room done by their previous master, complained about sleep disorder, insomnia, sickness, low energy etc.

For practical reasons, it is a waste of space. Feng shui is about environment, therefore early human life live in caves. Why? to feel secure & protected by walls at the back.

There is no feeling of “security” floating in the middle of a room with air/energy behind your headboard. More importantly there is no feng shui principle that supports this layout.

My client was told by his ex-feng shui master because of the main door faces a multi-storey carpark so it is necessary to tilt the door. Let’s give him the benefit of doubt that facing a carpark is bad.

By adjusting the door direction at a small degree, is it possible that the negativity will go away? What about the fumes and noise pollution? Main Door in feng shui is symbolic to the “mouth”. Having a crooked mouth is unattractive to start with and a sign of stroke. And to make things worse you are telling the whole world that your house is bad when you try to sell in future.

My client was told that placing a mirror besides the dining table is symbolic to doubling your abundance. I told him it can also symbolises gluttony & raising cholesterol levels. Because part of feng shui is 化无形 为有形 transforming invisible energy into a “form”.  Why not place it beside your safe then double your $$$ instead LOL.

Placing self-help feng shui items from yearly almanac without checking home destiny is dangerous

Take this house destiny for example, sitting West facing East. In 2014 auspicious flying star 9 is at North sector. If you follow annual almanac to place plants to enhance fire star 9 then you are inviting trouble.

Looking at Home Destiny energy chart, North is where 5 and 2 sickness combo resides.  Strong earth elements and represent misfortune or sickness. Based on feng shui 5-element, wood conquers earth, by challenging the earth element, you are activating the sickness energy.

What sort of cleansing power you need? for “forms” or “qi”? or both? Most feng shui principles have built-in cures for bad energies. Take for an example 八宅法 8 mansions feng shui,  Tian Yi 天医 positive energy can counter Jue Ming 绝命 negative energy.

Legitimate feng shui remedies conform to 1 or more of the 5 methods i.e. 遮  hide、挡 block、化 dilute、斗 fight 、避 avoid. Any deviations is not authentic practice.

One misleading representation is to associate Gua and it’s symbolism. E.g. South-East zone is Wealth sector for every home in the world.  Wow so simple, in that case why do you need feng shui masters to activate your wealth.

This is just one of the many formulas to find Home Wealth sector but a poor qualtiy one. We don’t need to engage the service of a feng shui master to do the job if finding home wealth sector is so easy.

Feng shui is not a “sound” check tool. 4 is not associated with death and 8 does not mean prosperity. 13 is not unlucky because of the movie Friday the 13th. “Numbers” in feng shui is use to symbolise certain things e.g. 6 is metal element NOT what it “sound-like”.

Some masters in their blog or testimonials or yearly almanac provide lucky numbers or evidence of clients striking lottery. Not sure they are promoting feng shui or gambling. If the master is so good at 4D or toto, i don’t think he need to work. Perhaps he will give you the excuse he don’t have such “personal bazi luck” but is it possible that “all” his customers possess “bazi luck”? All his customers got gambling luck except him? 

feng shui myth 12 – footboard not to face door 

i was told by my client that he was advised that footboard of the bed should not face the door. Not sure why? Best way to place the bed is at the diagonal corner of the door. Feng shui call it the energy collection point 聚气位.

First of all not all negative feng shui energies can be cure 100%. Feng shui can only guarantee improvements but not results. Professionals like doctors, lawyers…can’t guarantee saving life nor winning a case. Let alone feng shui is not an exact science. Feng shui masters are humans not God. Moreover there are so many factors that influence a person’s luck e.g. birth profile strengths & weaknesses, effort, luck pillars, personality, work experience, education, birth era and many others. Guess masters who promote that are “desperate” for business or get ahead of themselves.

i have consulted some feng shui done by other masters…not sure why their signature application is to put red door mat and hang red cloth at the main door that looks like “wedding” ceremony. Chinese culture associate “red” as the auspicious colour.

Red in feng shui represents “the most yang” 阳 energy and “black the most yin” 阴” energy. Red in the 5 element chain represent “fire”. Therefore please be mindful that your “red” item should not be at the sickness zones.

This is by far one of the most creative and exaggerate rule. i got a client that is so terrify that they do not dare to cook and order food delivery every day. Which is just as unhealthy! Lastly feng shui only supplements your life aspects not a miracle performance! Feng shui audit only deals with the the negative energy of your home environment i.e. internal layout & external environment.

There are many factors influencing individual’s quality of life such as health, career, harmony, wealth etc. Some of main factors are the country’s culture/economic status you live in, family upbringing, education, personality traits, biological factors, mental attitude, habits, lifestyle and so forth.

Sad to say today’s fengshui practice is not progressing with science. Some still believed in the appalling ritual of pineapple rolling on Key Collection day or deposit money on Li Chun or wearing red on the 1st day of cny. Most mixed up with Chinese customs than authentic feng shui. Here attempt to explain certain concepts of feng shui by science & objective reasoning.

FS science 1: don’t view problems only through feng shui optics 

A case that i re-audited seek help on health issues. This is a low-floor unit situated next to rubbish chute. The client was instructed to put a dragon figurine (琉璃 an expensive one) by his previous master, on the left hand side of the main door. This is generic green dragon fengshui position 左青龙位 supposedly improve family’s health. Not realising the root of the problem is unsanitary rubbish station that attracts air borne bacteria, viruses, nothing to do with the door.

Once we have identified the problem is half-solved. Recommended using a quality air purifier with diffuser that kill viruses and aroma to clear the foul smell. 

Instead of keeping an open mind, some view bad luck is caused by feng shui or bazi. 

FS Science 2: Water and fire conflict  水火相冲 或 水火既济

There are many versions of “water and fire conflict 水火相冲” in the kitchen. But first do bear in mind that all these theories are modern creations because those days (Jin dynasty 266–420 or earlier) the kitchen & toilet is outside the house.

Let’s use a washing machine to illustrate. Most feng shui masters will associate it as “water” element. So they say if washing machine faces the fire burner, it constitute “water” and “fire” clashes.

Now let me throw a spanner in the works, what happen if the washing machine comes with a built-in dryer? So dryer produces heat which is fire element and the washing is water, so which element would you define washing machine cum dryer? water or fire or both? Test it out yourself and you will discover many of these appalling feng shui drama.

FS science 3: fengshui flying star from astronomy

Astronomy the scientific study of celestial objects is how Xuan Kong flying star feng shui method comes from. Through this study, xuan kong divide “Earth’s energy influence” into 9 periods (九运) of 20 years, totalling 180 years. It then sub-divide 180 years into 3 eras (三元). One close explanation for this hypothesis is the alignment of Jupiter 木星 Saturn 土星 & Mercury 水星.

FS Science 4: don’t jump to conclusion  

Singapore latest architectural design caught my attention because “physical landform” does affect energy. Consider the design, it comes with a “hollow space” in the middle. It arouses my curiosity whether this is “bad” feng shui.

In order to determine whether this is good or bad feng shui design, we need to analyse the following:
Speed and direction of the wind, in Singapore NE / SW monsoon
Dimensions of the hollow space
Building direction & height whether it increases or decreases or deflect the air fluidity
Any blockage or openings that allows air to escape
or any others
No one knows the answer except those staying near to the perimeter of the air gap. In short don’t judge until we gathered all the facts.

FS Science 5: Common sense &  logical thinking  

The direction of timber strip laid also considered as bad feng shui. How creative.

I was told by my client that his previous fsm consider short end of the timber strip as “poison arrows” pointing towards the living hall. Wow great imagination! He advised my client to re-do so i was invited for a 2nd opinion. The fsm also associate right angle corners of objects such as cupboards as poison arrows, so one can’t face their own cupboards.

FS Science 6: ordinary items work too

So often i heard clients complained about masters using scarce tactics to to make them buy expensive feng shui products, if not the house fengshui will be bad. 

Authentic feng shui remedies is to transform “invisible energy into visible 化无形为有形，化虚为实” thereby solving or enhances it. Sometime the solutions can be as simple as the colour of door mat but definitely not colours alone to solve the entire house fengshui.

For a skeptical person without feng shui knowledge about  易经 卦象 数理 will think that such ordinary item is unable to solve the problem. That is why “feng shui” study is call 术数or玄学 in Chinese.

Things that are unable to explain by Science does not mean it doesn’t work. Strangely these minority believed in things like unicorn, talisman or 3 legged toad which is more “glamorous & expensive”.

FS Science 7: Avoidance is feng shui best defence

There are 5 basic tactics to solve feng shui problems. They are cover 遮, block 挡, dissolve 化, fight 制 and avoid 避. The best is to avoid or reduce activities in your Home Destiny “negative” sectors.

It is myopia to even think that by paying for an expensive item means is a powerful cure! For e.g if your window faces a pointed building, one only need to use a small cocave mirror with water or hang some plants to block the line of sight. FSM uses items that meets the criteria of  I Ching 易经象意理数 appearance, meaning, symbolism, number, colour, material etc.  For e.g. pink colour is use to dilute quarrelsome 3 instead of red.

FS Science 8: fengshui is not Customary or Ritualistic

Even with rising intellect, some still believed in pineapple rolling on key collection day (door opening ceremony) or deposit money on Li Chun or “blessing of items 开光” among other things that are unrelated with feng shui principles.

FS Science 9: fengshui unexplainable by science 呼形喝象  

Just like any field of study, there are areas where science is unable to explain but doesn’t mean it is non-existent.

Recently i got a call from an old client of mine who mentions that her family members fall sick like dominoes. After checking found nothing. Re-checked birth profile, luck pillar came back empty.  Ended up drinking coffee and small talk. Somehow our conversation drifted about his new neighbour consulted fs & shifted in 3 months ago. Out of curiousity, i went over to take a look and saw 2 ferocious rock lions facing my client’s main door which is causing the problem. It was a long corridor so i did not see it the first time. 

Interestingly these objects seem innocent but do pose problems if your door or window faces it e.g. bagua mirror, door guardian 门神, sharp objects, reflective metal gates. Feng shui symbolism 意象 is difficult to explain but it does exist.

FS Science 10: understand the cause of problem

Everyone knows that sitting below an overhead beam is bad feng shui.

But not many know the science behind it. In feng shui “yang energy” move when there is unoccupied space and stop when it is block 阳气随空而窜，遇物而止.

When air flows on top of ceiling, hits the beam, it is blocked, the motion is forced to deflect following the structure. The pressure is exterted downwards accelerated by gravity. Imagine someone is sitting below the overhead beam. Without realising it, air pressue is exerted on him. Our normal heart beat rate range between 60-100 per minute. With the air pressure exerted downwards, it will increase our heartbeat. Thus whoever sits under it for “long term” will probably suffer from headache and loss of concentration.

Olden days feng shui teachers used bamboo flute or hulu or 6 coins dangling at both ends to solve this problem. Experimenting with these items proves that it doesn’t work. Over the years with hands-on experience, through objectivity and science  i realised the problem is not the beam but air pressure exerting on the beam.
