Majority of today’s mainstream bazi reading rely on a 3-step shortcut to determine a person’s Most Beneficial Element by classifying Day Master profile (日主) into 2 categories: “strong” or “weak”— the recommendation suppress the strong, support the weak. This approach is overly simplistic and superficial.
It does not even scratch the surface of classical bazi reading.
Determining the most beneficial element (Yong Shen – 八字用神) one of the core concept of birth reading requires a far more indepth analysis than conclude at a binary calculation of elemental strengths 旺衰补缺.

What is Classical Bazi Reading?

The calculation of someone in this world sharing the same bazi chart with you is 1/60 x 1/12 x 1/60 x 1/12. If we separate the 2 genders computing 10-year luck pillar the probability is 1/1,036,800.
The computation of one’s destiny is even more intricate and complex. It involves interchangeable values such as 十干性情, 阴阳, 干支 合化刑冲 破害, 空亡 , 格局, 十神, 气势流通, 真化, 从格, 旺衰, 象法, 调候, 通关, 病药, 扶抑 etc.
Add on to the complexity, our useful element “sometime” alter due to the intervention of 10-Year luck pillars.
I have nothing against AI, it shortcut our learning curve.
But to accurately finding “the most beneficial element” is no simple task. It requires extensive, diverse, conflicting global data sourcing. I checked the findings is usually wrong.
The issue i suspect is the finding is based on majority input. For such a Chinese practice like bazi or feng shui or any metaphysic study, ancient practice is through word-of-mouth. And mastery on a complex subject like bazi in today’s context is even harder.
Fact is top feng shui global masters are the minority. They purposely kept themselves hidden. They avoid global news media giants like BBC, CNN, Reuters etc.
One of my clients seek my second opinion regarding his child’s readings were not aligned with the experiences. He proudly showed me the screen grab done by a prominent modern bazi master, concluding that water is the “lucky element” because he is a Weak Yi Wood profile 系统估算:八字身弱 (得令 失地 失势). The conclusion sadly is wrong!
I used this apple app more than a decade ago. Not for it’s shortcut analytical conclusions, but the convenience of plotting out the natal chart and luck pillars without having to thumb through the 萬年曆 (Perpetual Calendar).
